Typography Podcast Poster
ten Percent Happier by Dan HArris
Pulling from the podcast, “Ten Percent Happier” by Dan Harris, deliberate design decisions were made to create a visually compelling text focused composition. Dan likes to talk with a variety of guests on a variety topics like why anxiety may be good or how to achieve happiness through meditation. Wanting to focus on his advocacy for self-importance, the design reflects this positive message. The layout features a light blue to dark blue color gradient in growing blocks, conveying an idea of growth. A carefully selected color pallet of blues and white was chosen to help highlight the values of the podcast and set a calm and happy mood. The intentional design of adding the uppercase H within the lowercase letters in the title shows an additional visual of growth. The grid system is systematically arranged to align and format text, with the hosts name and description centered to lead the viewer in hierarchal order. The paragraph and episodes are set within the grid to organize their layout, balancing them to promote readability. The strategic usage of scale and proportion within the episodes’ text helps the typographic layout distinguish the most important information to the viewer.

AFTER
In this project, significant changes were made from the initial iteration to final product. The most notable alteration was the overall transition in layout from two half circles to growing block gradients. This had a profound impact on the narrative, carrying more emphasis with Dan’s message. Additionally, adjustments were made to the treatment of text. Aligning the title created another sense of growth through the increasing text sizes. Centering both the hosts name and the podcast description provided a clear entry point for viewers into the episodes. Modifications to the episodes were made to the date placement and size as well as color choices highlighting the guests last name. Furthermore, an additional sixth episode was added to the poster to maintain visual balance.
The Design Process
Developing how to deliver information
Initial attempts to display text were inconsistent and lacked visual appeal. While the idea of using circles was considered, it was during the second stage that the transition to block gradients proved more successful. Through iterative refinement, it become evident that organizing text in a structured manner using a grid layout can be equally or more effective than unconventional approaches. This realization shows the importance of conveying visual balance in the intended message.
